Marcello Nizzoli, Giuseppe Beccio. Macchina da scrivere, Lexikon 80, Olivetti, 1945.

Italian design’s history is put on show at Milan Triennale Design Museum. The event is called Italian Design Icons and, until February 2015, brings to the fore a number of objects belonging to the Permanent Collection of the Museum, enriched by a selection by Italian Design Masters, asked to indicate the essential and indispensable works for them in the history of Italian design.
A PERMANENT EXHIBITION IN A MUTANT MUSEUM

In conclusion, what is left. What resists time and modes, which goes beyond trends and schools , which stabilizes in perception and settle as a ‘ classic ‘ imaginary. The framework, instead, is a mutant museum, which changes every year exhibition design and selections. Because, while the museum in each edition experiments, researches, does some soul searches, the section dedicate to the icons instead enhances the collection at the base of the museum, sustaining it.
THE SUPER ICONS OF THE MONTH

At the center of the space, as in a warehouse / archive that emerges from the ground and rises to the top, there are the objects that make up the collection . Around this exhibition , there are 5 icons of Italian design plus 1 super icon, chosen month to month by a Master of Italian and international design, who acts as warrantor and at the same time as witness. The Museum in this way elects, little by little, its icons in a process of collective elaboration : the objects chosen represent the soul of Italian design and trace the paradigm of its excellence , but also of its originality and uniqueness. These are the highlights that make it instantly recognizable all over the world, and that all over the world testify Italian creativity and originality.

The ball in the selection of the super icon of the month was opened by Enzo Mari, in April, and Cini Boeri, in May. These will be followed by names like Mario Bellini, Ugo La Pietra and Antonio Citterio, according to the programme below:
